FCHO Gardens and Allotments Competition 2007

Merit awardsMORE than 200 green-fingered Oldhamers swapped gardening gloves for their top togs to enjoy a night of presentations at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.

First Choice Homes and Oldham Council’s parks department got together to host the annual Growing Together annual allotment and gardens competition.

Guests enjoyed a champagne reception and music from The Oldham (Lees) Band and supper before a glittering ceremony. Award winners were captured live on a giant screen as they received their trophies from the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Ann Wingate.

The evening was organised by Jo White and Leigh Rourke from FCHO and Glenn Dale, Graeme Gibson and Matthew Suett.

The Oldham Chronicle Cup was won by Patrick Moran, who has an allotment on the Stott’s Lane site. The runner-up was Bernard Rhodes, from Rushcroft, with Michael Jeffries, from Oakbank, third.

Constantine Street won the Shield for the Most Improved Site, Heyside took the Oldham Corporation Cup for the Best Allotment and Stott’s Lane took the Shannon Trophy for having the best six plots.

In the FCHO section, the overall prize for the best garden went to Steven Moore, of Longfield Crescent, Littlemoor, with Mrs Verity and Mr Cooper, who tend the garden at Cherry Avenue, Alt, the runners up and Mrs K Hardy, from Lawn Close, Alt, third.
